Ted Baker’s trading results for the 53 weeks ending 31 January 2009 have seen a rise in revenue of 7.3%, equating to £152.7m

Despite the global credit crunch, the labels we love are continuing to do well and see healthy profits. Ted Baker is still a popular brand with young, fashionable women that want more from their wardrobe than cheap, fast fashion.

In celebration of Ted Baker’s increase in revenue, go spoil yourself at Tedbaker.com

I’m loving this Ted Baker Skirt - it is perfect for Summer with gladiator flats!

Hot fashion designer Giles Deacon is set to expand his fashion brand and reach out to a whole new fashion clientele, setting his sights on international distribution.

In a struggling climate, it is refreshing to hear a fashion label with big plans to survive the recession. Despite falling sales across many top luxury brands, here’s hoping Giles Deacon succeeds. His fashions are wonderful! Here’s some fab pics to remind us of how great his designs are:

I love the above image – chunky knit scarves with sleek, short skirts – the fabric contrast is utterly stunning and very striking. Not sure if you could wear this to go into town though!

It seems there is an increasing number of people criticising Michelle Obama’s choice of fashion.

Michelle Obama is not meant to be a fashion queen, and i genuinely feel like she is trying her best to be accepted into the fashion community. From the criticism of wearing a sleeveless top in the official photo to the choice of clothing at the G2O Summit in London – is this really worth discussing?

I think Michelle Obama’s fashion style is effortlessly chic – there is no reason why she should have to try super hard just to please everyone. There will always be someone ready to criticise, but i think it is high time we let Mrs Obama settle into her new role of being the First Lady, rather than disapprove of something so trivial as her fashion sense.

I actually think she looks good – she is very tall and any tall ladies will understand how difficult it can be to find well-fitting clothes that don’t make you look like a giraffe trying to dress fashionably. Its okay when you’re in your twenties, but as you get older it can be hard to carry off clothes as well when you’re particularly tall.

The awful news of the sudden death of Natasha Richardson was a shock for many people. A charismatic, bubbly and beautiful lady has been sadly taken from us, but aside from her acting capabilities, i do feel that Natasha Richardson was somewhat of a style icon. Her beautiful features were complemented by her great choice of fashions. I don’t think i ever saw her looking anything less than stunning.

I think we all might remember that slight wardrobe malfunction when Natasha Richardson was attending the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in New York, accompanied by Tom Ford, but this never detracted from the beautiful dress she wore on the night.

Natasha Richardson knew what looked good and knew how to wear it. Her sister Joely Richardson has the similar trait, and it is deeply unfortunate what has happened to Natasha Richardson. As far as the fashion world is concerned, she will be remembered.

Thought i would share this super cool blog carnivale with fellow bloggers. If you have any money saving style tips that you have previously shared on your blog, now is the time to have it included in the “Credit Crunchista Carnivale” that one very lovely blogger is arranging. Full details are below…so go on, get submitting! Deadline is March 16th 2009!

Call for Credit Crunchista Carnivale! March 18 2009

No-one is the same. That’s what makes us all so unique…so, if you need fashion tips for different body types, then i have some essential advice below for you:

For those who are short and slim: For the petite amongst us, fashion can often be a tricky find. For a start, we don’t want to look like we are wearing something 3 sizes too big for us, and we also want to be wearing clothes that flatter our figures, adding curves in all the right places. I think it is important to love your body shape whatever size you are, and it is a known fact that some of those people who are slim wish they were just a little bit bigger. Naturally, the same applies vice versa. We live in a society of never being grateful for what we have, but i think people are starting to realise that beauty is on the inside, which is good.

However, if you are short and slim, opt for tunic dresses and chunky belts to accentuate the hips and add some definition to your curves. Avoid clothes that look too tight as this will only make you look thinner and size zero might look good on the catwalk, but on the high street it really doesn’t.

For those who are short and curvaceous: If you have natural curves but perhaps try and hide your stomach area, opt for skirts and dresses with a bias cut to define your figure and draw attention to your neckline or fabulous legs.

If you are tall and slim, get kitted out with some stunning skinny jeans and some flat shoes. Being naturally tall, you don’t need to add any extra height with heels, so always opt for flat shoes to make you look in proporation and still on-trend.

If you are tall and curvaceous, you will be able to carry the extra weight well and you can wear floaty dresses that will make you look and feel smaller than you are. Avoid skinny jeans though – look for flares (which are totally back in fashion) and team with a tunic top to show off that stunning figure.

This just goes to show that it doesn’t matter what body size you are, as we all need fashion tips and everyone can benefit from dressing to suit their shape. Be happy with the way you look and buy clothes to complement who you are and the body type you have.

We all need some credit crunch busting fashion tips in the current climate, so lets take a look at what you can do to keep the spending down and make those precious pennies go further.

Its always nice to buy new things, and believe me, this isn’t something i have stopped doing, but i have been looking into re-working what i already have, such as skirts and tops. Take, for example, a plain denim mini skirt (denim is still hot this season) then head down to your local haberdashery and pick up some quirky large buttons and lace trims. If you’re a decent seamstress, you can add the lace to the bottom of your denim skirt yourself, or ask a very kind friend to have a go if you’re not sure. Then sew a couple of rainbow coloured, funky buttons on the front of the skirt to give it some edge. The retro look is back in a big way, and you can get that look instantly with re-working your current wardrobe. Think “vintage chic” meets “unique”. Its all about being original, and even during the credit crunch, you don’t have to spend a fortune getting a super on-trend look for every season.

Your local haberdashery will have loads of funky bits that you can experiment with and add on to your clothes, so give it a go and see what there is!

I have a new favourite brand at the moment: Gio Goi clothes. This brand is setting trends all around the world with their bold, funky and striking designs. If you’ve never heard of Gio Goi clothes before, you really should check them out. They design men’s and ladies clothing and there is something for everyone in their fashionable designer clothing ranges.

When you stumble across a new brand, you don’t often know its going to be on-trend enough for that particular season. What i love about Gio Goi clothes though is that they transcend and push the fashion boundaries every season, making sure that their ranges are super-hot and super stylish. Here in the UK, there are many Gio Goi clothing fans, and it really is an demand brand.

Gio Goi is only available in select retailers, but i found a really great UK online retailer stocking this brand – check them out here: GIO GOI

After looking at the Oscars Red Carpet Fashion pictures, i think that Heidi Klum looked fab in her bright red Roland Mouret dress, or as what some are describing as a “napkin dress” (see the Guardian article below!)

http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/gallery/2009/feb/23/oscars-fashion-red-carpet-pictures?picture=343625109

As for Miley Cyrus – she looked older beyond her years and whoever suggested wearing that dress needs firing! It wasn’t young, feminine and classy – it was very dull and even my Grandma wouldn’t have been seen in it…

Sophia Loren looked stunning as usual and showed us all how red carpet Oscar fashion should be done…

So, it seems that the credit crunch is even being felt in the one area that you wouldn’t expect to see it. New York Fashion Week has long been synonymous with expense, luxury and designer glamour. However, this year, it has been just that little bit less costly…

Designers showcasing their new season fashions on the catwalk have cut down on the number of models used and the fashions seem to have been toned down a little bit. Naturally, there is still the big, bold items that attract attention, but look closely and compare it to previous New York Fashion Week’s and you will see that it is clear the credit crunch has finally hit the luxury market. The fashion designers themselves are struggling to shift the stock they have in the upmarket stores, and cheques to the designers are being returned after having bounced.

So, this might not affect the luxury market drastically, but it will cause a bit of a stir…

A few years ago i came across the fashion name E.VIL and i have been wearing their clothes ever since. With this brand you get stunning attention to detail, but admittedly at a designer price.

E.VIL stems from the designer fashion house Queen of E.VIL and features t-shirts and jackets with multi-coloured diamantes on. These designs are strictly limited and certainly aren’t items you will find on every high street. E.VIL is stocked in the high class stores and upscale boutiques.

This brand has an avid fan in the form of glamour model Jordan – she is frequently seen sporting an E.VIL t-shirt

You can see below some of my favourite pieces from the E.VIL range:

It has just been announced that teen starlet Hilary Duff is to launch her own fashion line with DKNY, the hot US designer name that many celebrities love.

Hilary Duff will team up with DKNY to launch a range of denim jeans and other apparel with a “rocky” edge to match her new rock chick personality.

The “Wake Up” singer is clearly trying to elaborate on her already impressive CV credentials. As well as designing her own fashion line, Hilary Duff is also trying to concentrate on TV work.

So, will you be buying the Hilary Duff DKNY fashion line? For me, it is not just about the celebrity name behind a fashion garment; it has to be a good quality and stylish product that is worth the money.

Pretty much everyone has heard or seen the film “The Devil Wears Prada”, but did you know that there is also a heavy metal band called the same name? I think they are fab and so i want to share them with you:)

The Devil Wears Prada (the band) is a Christian heavy metal band that is gradually becoming recognised over here in the UK. I went to see them live not long ago and they rocked; heavy metal thrashing interlaced with growling vocals and sultry moods. Totally different to The Devil Wears Prada film!

If you like your chick flick films or suchike, then you might be interested in The Devil Wears Prada film, featuring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. The film focuses on the world of fashion and its superficial existance when it comes to wearing the right things and looking the part. So, now you know the difference between the two!

One has to wonder why fashion models are so thin, although i don’t think it is Likely to change anytime soon. Fashion designers want their clothes to be worn right and look their very best and there is a general consensus that couture fashion looks better on thin models than it does larger models. This is why designers will choose the slimmest girls possible to showcase their designs.

So, why are fashion models so thin? Well, they are moulded into being just what the fashion audience want to see and thin is always in, unfortunately. Thin fashion models are restricted with what they can eat and are watched closely to check they don’t put on any weight. If they did put on weight, there would always be a thinner model somewhere else, so the model that had put on weight would be rejected. It is a sad realisation that this is what happens in the world of fashion.

Are you looking for designer clothes stores? If you live in the UK, London is a high fashion and designer clothing mecca – you just need the cash to be able to indulge. Of course, prices in London are naturally more expensive so if you’re looking for great designer clothes from little boutiques, then head North to get some better deals.

In America, big department stores like Macy’s and Bloomingdales are a designer clothes paradise. Alternatively, seek out the smaller designer clothes stored that might not have as large a selection, but they will have a much more select choice of fashions.

The best designer clothes stores are not always right in front of your face – take the time to look around and see what your town or city has to offer.

There are many different types of fashion that come and go throughout the seasons, but the denim mini skirt is one item of clothing that seems to have stood the test of time.

So how do you wear your denim mini skirt?

Team it with sexy high heels and colourful tights for an edgy, on-trend lo0k. In Winter, you can still get away with wearing your denim mini skirt – just throw on a casual jumper and a waist belt, plus thicker tights and winter boots for a really striking look.

So, i love this site below, please check it out. You can buy a denim mini skirt here – copy and paste the URL below into your web browser:

http://www.asos.com/search/pgeSearch.aspx?q=denim+skirt

Designer clothes are so expensive because, simply, they can afford to be! There is a an air of exclusivity when you buy designer clothes, and the more expensive, often the more limited edition they are. I see them as a worthwhile investment if you can afford to splash the cash…

Okay,so i am still loving the Louis Vuitton leopard print scarf by Stephen Sprouse…i actually went into a Louis Vuitton store the other day and touched it! It felt amazing – the cashmere and silk mix was so luxurious. Yep, so i STILL haven’t bought one yet, but i’m working on it!

When it comes to tartan fashion, one designer that has featured this check frequently is Vivienne Westwood. This designer knows just how to create the perfect look out of something rather un-sexy.

Tartan has never been particularly appealing to me, but i can totally appreciate Westwood’s desings and the ability to work tartan into something stylish, unusual and magical.

All credit Vivienne!

Derek Lam Purple Dress

So, i mentioned earlier on in my blog about how purple was going to be hot in 2008 and i think it is safe to say that this will continue well into 2009. It is a colour that has arrived and isnt going away anytime soon.

To prove this, all you need to do is look at some of the top fashion sites to see for yourself. All the designers have still got a focus on purple fashion and Net-A-Porter hve some great items in at the moment for the new season. I simply adore the Derek Lam  purple halter dresss pictured above…this is going to be hot this season…get it while you can! It costs £1032.55

You can buy it HERE

If you’re looking for the best designer handbags, then be sure to look at the top designers that really make you splash the cash.

For me, Chanel is a the top designer when it comes to handbags; they epitomise all that is elegant and French chic looks stunning on any lady of any age.

A close second is Gucci. Gucci bags have long been the envy of many women simply because you can tell from a mile away what brand it is and know instantly that they have spent a lot of money. We all want the best  designer handbags, so be sure to give Gucci a try.

Ive always loved the Dior Gaucho bag that came around a few seasons ago, and every celebrity worth their weight in gold had one flung on their arm. A timeless style that never dates, Dior knows how to create designs that will make any designer bag lover go weak at the knees!

Well, i have just heard that famous online store E-Luxury is going to be closing soon…actually within the next 6 months. Most likely due to falling sales during the credit crunch, i can’t say i am taking the news lightly. This is such a great online retailer. You can buy Dior, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci and a whole host of other great designer brands. To see it go will be bad news for the luxury goods market, which looks set to suffer somewhat during this recession. However, its not all bad news because they will be focusing on a fashion magazine instead. Watch this space…

If you want to take a look at what E-Luxury has to offer, check it out now – before its too late! Designer bags galore!

http://www.eluxury.com/estore/index.jsp

The luxury goods market may not be doing as well as we thought. It has been announced that haute couture’s finest Chanel has ditched 200 staff recently, due to falling sales.

Now, this has come has a real surprise to me. The rich and super-rich should be able to keep on buying what they love despite the credit crunch, but it would seem that that may not be the case anymore. Maybe everyone is tightening their belts.

Chanel is a brand associated with the elite; a designer name that epitomises the true essence of French chic. I can’t say that i imagine the company will fold during this recession, but i think this is a sign of the times and one that we should all wake up and notice off. Lets bear in mind that Chanel does not have a shop on every high street, and stand-alone shops are hard to find. Therefore, sacking 200 people all at once might be considered to be a large number in comparison to the number and locality of the stores.

Please stay afloat Chanel!

Well, this is exciting news. On January 15th, Louis Vuitton are going to unveil their new Stephen Sprouse collection, including bags that are going to make you totally drool!

So far, we’ve all been aware of the leopard print Stephen Sprouse scarfs that Louis Vuitton sold out of early in 2008, and so it is really great to know that Louis Vuitton are doing it all again, yet this time they are taking it a bit further.

The classic Vuitton bag styles including the Keepall, the Speedy and the Neverfull holdall are all getting the Stephen Sprouse revamp for a one-off collection. Looks like we will all have to start saving up for these ladies!

The two Sprouse design concepts are graffiti and the rose – something which will be featured in this latest Sprouse / Vuitton  collection.

I can’t tell you how excited i am about this! To check out more info, click HERE to be directed to the Vogue website, where you can find all the hottest fashion news.

So, the word on the street is that Gucci is going to be the name on everyone’s lips this year. I have my trusted sources telling me that the Gucci range this year is going to be streets ahead of other names, and it is definitely the designer brand to be buying.

From the clothes to the bags, Gucci is going to be everywhere in 2009. The celebrities will be dripping in the finest couture and making us mere mortals positively drool at the sight of the Gucci branding. My suggestion is to start saving now; maybe treat yourself to one of those gorgeous bags or a purse to replace the one that is looking just that little bit tired – the choice is yours, but the designer name is a given.

The best thing about Gucci is that it is perfect for so many different age groups – from the discerning lady to the young gent, Gucci is classic elegance that reflects timeless designs and quirky styling.

If you’ve always fancied indulging in a piece of couture, then why wait? Check out the new Spring / Summer 09 collection online at Gucci now.

Oooh when it comes to iconic fashion, the Louis Vuitton leopard print Stephen Sprouse scarf is one of those pieces that you just lust after. It is was so limited edition and sold out instantly all over the world.

Okay, so the plan is to get one of these beauties, but since the waiting lists are closed then i think the best bet is for me to try eBay. So, i go on eBay and have a look only to find people selling them at extortionate prices. Aaah well, here’s to hoping i can still get one!

This Louis Vuitton leopard print scarf has been seen on every celebrity worth their weight in gold. Kate Moss has one, Sarah Jessica Parker has one and so on….

I remember reading on an eBay listing about what one of the lucky owners of these scarves had to say. She said that when she went on a flight she wore the scarf and the hostess recognised her on the way back JUST BECAUSE OF THE SCARF and upgraded her to first class!! Blimey – this scarf has major prominence!

Here’s SJP in her scarf:

Okay, when i first heard the new Leona Lewis song “Forgive Me” i wasn’t overly impressed, however, the video is a really great summer-esque scene. I love the clothes that Leona is wearing, and in particular i love the pvc purple trench coat / mac!

Yes, she looks a bit “tantastic” in the video and i can’t help but think how the fake tan came off all over that fabulous purple coat, but obviously i will never know :) Why do they put, what i assume is tan on Leona Lewis? Its hardly like she needs it. She has beautiful skin. My thought is that they have tried to darken her skin for the American audience, and make her look a bit more “black” than she is normally. I guess there’s nothing wrong with this, but we just know the Leona of old, that’s all :)

So, the purple coat…where the hell do we get one from? I have searched high and low on Google but to no avail. My conclusion is that it was probably designed especially for her, and so we might never know! Anyway, i scoured the net and came up with some pretty good substitutes, so scroll down to see my purple coat findings!

This is an Aquascutum Purple Trench Coat and retails for around £595 and is truly stunning. A very classy, smart looking belted trench coat; this jacket will take you through every season. You can buy it at Coggles.com

This Alexander McQueen purple satin coat is to die for. Look at the grace, the movement and the ultimate stylish twist it gives any outfit. Check the official McQueen site. It costs £2,975 , so you’d better start saving those pennies…

My final coat up for offerings is this gorgeous Topshop Bow Back Trench Coat, in purple :) I love the shape this creates, and as a fashion advisor, i would team this coat with thigh high black leather boots and a black and white mini dress underneath. Work that style! You can go to the Topshop site and search for it. Price: £65

So, the moral of this story is…even if you can’t have Leona Lewis’ purple trench coat, there are other designers and fast fashion creators getting onto this trend, so expect to see more around soon!

This season there have been loads of celebrities spotted out wearing the hottest colour around at the moment – purple.

Anyone heard the Gogol Bordello song “Start Wearing Purple”? Well, if you haven’t, check out the video below. It is a really catchy little number and it inspires you to quite literally, wear purple. Yes the song is random, but the meaning isn’t – purple really is a hot colour to be seen in and I’m going to show you just what i mean. Check out these celebrities wearing purple clothes:

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood in Purple

Carrie Underwood in Purple

Verdict? Very stylish; Carrie wears this colour effortlessly and the shape of the dress flatters her figure. Traditionally, dark purples suit dark hair and skin, but Carrie Underwood shows that even the paler complexions can carry it off. This is achieved by showing more skin to contrast against the heavy purple. If this dress was full length and long sleeved, blonde Carrie would look swamped in it.

Score: 8/10

Rihanna

Rihanna in Purple

Rihanna in Purple

Verdict? This picture shocked me a little. Rihanna always looks so glamorous and stunning that i was so surprised when i saw this big purple blackcurrant impression she tried to pull off. With such a beautiful skin tone, the clash of colours going on here is nothing but a fashion faux pas. The jumpsuit is far too “block” in colour and makes her look larger round the hips as well as being unflattering and baggy in the wrong places. As a fashion advisor, i would have cut this outfit up and had her in a tight black pencil skirt with the pinky/purple top and a black jacket to round off the look.

Score: 3/10

Mariah Carey in Purple

Mariah Carey in Purple

Verdict? Mariah Carey has a wonderful curvaceous figure, but this dress does nothing for. This kind of bluey-purple is a hard colour to wear and although very pretty, it can often make women look drained. I don’t think the style of the dress suits Mariah either – notice her hands uncomfortably hovering over the chest.

Score: 5/10

Amerie

Amerie Wearing Purple

Amerie Wearing Purple

Verdict: This is a gorgeous picture of Amerie. The dress is stunning and the material shows of her figure perfectly. The soft sheen that this purple has complements Amerie’s soft complexion and delicate features. If this colour of purple was any darker then this dress might not have looked so good. The bias cut shows of the leg and the whole outfit fits perfectly. Even the bracelet tones in. All credit to her stylists for this one.

Chris Kirkpatrick (ex-Nsync)

Verdict: Oh dear Chris, what were you thinking? Even men can get their fashions wrong sometimes.  Whoever let this guy walk out where there are other people deserves to be fired from their job. My opinion? Don’t even try and wear metallic purple like this unless your black. A white man’s often rusty complexion cannot carry this colour very well and it just looks like a circus jacket. This jacket is far too OTT to be taken seriously, so Chris – look in the mirror next time!

Score: 0/10

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus in Purple

Miley Cyrus in Purple

Verdict: Here’s Miley Cyrus in this cute little ensemble. The jumper dress doesn’t swamp her little frame because she teams it with black tights and a black jacket. This breaks the block colour up and keeps it looking fresh and youthful. The belt is simple and pretty. She is very pale in this picture though, very English Rose, and this colour almost doesn’t work, but i think she just about pulls it off.

Score: 5/10

Do you agree with me?

Since purple is really hot this season, i think it worth my time to share with you all the fab purple ensembles you can purchase right now.

The colour purple has never really been considered a staple colour in your wardrobe. Yes, you can wear a top with beautiful purple flowers on it, but block purple has always been seen as a bit heavy and drab for many people. Not anymore! This Winter, make sure you cosy up in the hottest purple creations around.

So, how do you wear purple this Winter? Well, i think the trick here is not to “overdo” it. With purple being quite a heavy colour, it is important that you use it in a way that doesn’t make you look washed out or old and frumpy. The wrong colour purple could do this. Lets look at my example:

Below is a pic i found from a US site. It is a purple and black housecoat / cardigan. For me, this does not work. The purple is too bright and the black makes it look like a bumble bee that has been swimming in Ribena. The material doesn’t work for me either – too “shaggy” and messy. This cardigan is so busy and fussy on the eye, that you would have to wear white underneath to help tone down the vibrancy. I think this is anything but a statement piece.

Not my cup of tea...

Not my cup of tea...

Now I’ve shown you what doesn’t work, check out this hot little cashmere cardigan available from Laura Ashley.

Purple at its best!

Purple at its best!

By wearing a dark purple top with lilac accents on the pockets etc, this breaks up the heavy block colour of the purple and makes it much easier on the eye. Team this cardigan with some black trousers for a hot winter look.

Now, lets remember we can always make our purple a little bit more exciting by choosing different purple variations in an outfit. If its an evening out you are planning for, then see below:

Experiment with your purple!

Experiment with your purple!

Okay, this was just a quick mock-up that i did, but notice how the dress is a bluey-purple, not garish and totally stunning in a soft, floaty material. Team this colour purple with a fuschia pink bag and shoes and you are set for your evening out! Note the sheen on the dress is replicated on the bag and shoes. Never piece an outfit together with different materials clashing.  Also notice the slight ruffle effect of the bag works well with the dress. The bows on the shoes are mirrored with the bow wrapped around the dress. This outfit is perfect for a night out, and shows how you can wear purple and make it really work.

The dress is by Jay Ahr  – Jersey Mini Dress

The shoes are by Tibi – the fuchsia Heathcliff Ankle Wrap Sandal

The bag is by Fendi – The Borderline Ruffle Clutch

Check out Net-A-Porter to see if they are still available!

So, when you’re choosing your purple for this Winter, make sure you get that colour just right. Purple can be hard to wear and cheap drab looking versions will do nothing to complement your figure so shop wisely.

Tartan is really hot this season. Forget Scottish associations of fuddy-duddy old kilts and embrace the stylish interpretations into ladies fashions. Tartan is great when you team it with a solid block colour either at the top or the bottom. Check out my tips:

1) Red tartan skirt and black strappy top – perfect for parties. I love this Lipsy red tartan mini skirt:

Hot Red Tartan Skirt

Lipsy is a great fashion brand and they have some fab tartan in their collections at the moment.

2) Any colour top with subtle accents of tartan, like a tartan bow. They had one on ASOS by Jam Tartan, but it seems to have gone! Check back regularly to their site for the latest tartan fashion.

3) One of the coolest items this season is the tartan dress. But i’m not talking dowdy old tartan dresses, i’m thinking of fabulous tartan party dresses! This dress from Unique Boutique is SO LUSH.

Unique Boutique Tartan Dress

This Unique Boutique party dress will have everyone envious – get it while you can – i have mine! It costs £100 and is available from asos.com

Team your tartan pieces with a sexy black coat to ensure you look your very best this Winter.

I went to a gig the other night and saw a band called “MUCC”. At first i was like “woah – who are these crazy guys” but then i really got into them. Their Japanese fashion is quite unlike anything else! So, i thought i would write a post about it and share this band with the world.

When it comes to their music style, they remind me of Dir En Grey with a kind of HIM feel to them. Very catchy, very arty and quite talented! When they came on stage, their clothes were so unusual. The lead singer was wearing a long black cloak/dress (he’s male by the way) and it was beautifully layered. The little guitarist was wearing a chic green long length cardigan, almost floor length, over a rather funky top. Sooo cool.

Check out some pics below of what MUCC look like. The crowd loved them and i would definitely go see them again, if only to check out their ace authentic Japanese fashion! So effortlessly stylish.

OMG!!! Check out this Louis Vuitton trash / bin bag! It looks authentic from afar, but look closely and you will see the lettering is all wrong. A good way to fool people that you are dripping in head to toe with Louis Vuitton goods!

Say NO! to fake designer goods!

Oooh its the big one! How on earth do you tell fake from real on eBay? It really bugs me when i see loads and loads of so-called “authentic” items in the listings when i know in my heart of hearts that they are anything but authentic, genuine items.

Here’s a tip i learnt. Some sellers think they can get away with putting “authentic” on their listing, like it is an authentic designer piece, but that could also mean it is “authentic from China” etc. Authentic is a bit of a gray area these days. So, some sellers have indeed picked up on this, and they will often list the item as “GENUINE” which is a good indication – well a better one, anyway – that it may well just be real.

I feel sorry for eBay in many ways with this whole fake scandal. Not long ago, they were ordered to pay an astronomical amount to top fashion houses. According to the judgement, eBay ended up paying 19.28m euros in damages to Louis Vuitton Malletier, 17.3m to Christian Dior Couture and 3.25m to the perfume brands. (Source: BBC)

The thing is, with eBay, it is such a worldwide user-friendly platform, that how is it possible to control the dodgy dealings that go on? I mean, when you list an item you are asked to adhere to the terms and conditions and state that the item you are listing is authentic. However, people will just abuse this and carry on listing anyway. Who is going to refrain from making some money just because they think their item is fake?

I also feel sorry for those that have been caught out buying so- called designer goods on eBay, only to find they are fake designer items. My friend bought a Louis Vuitton handbag and paid £75. She thought it was genuine because it came with a controllato card and a Louis Vuitton dustbag, but when she took it to the shop to get it authenticated, she found out the truth. The thing is, if the price is too good to be true, then it probably is. You might think that £75 is a lot for a handbag – which it is – but any Louis Vuitton fans will know that it is a snip at that price and can’t possibly be real. You go into the Louis Vuitton store and try and get a bag for £75! No such luck I’m afraid guys, so why would you think you could get one on eBay.

When it comes to eBay and designer clothes, always check the seller’s feedback to see what other buyers have said. Another good tip is to check if they are selling multiple items of the same designer goods. 35 Fendi scarves sold in the last month? Hmm, my instincts say steer clear – fake items are bought in bulk and it is always a tell-tale sign if they are shifting a load on eBay.

At the end of the day, if you are wanting real designer clothes on eBay, then the best bet is to check if the item comes with a receipt. This will usually show an honest seller who is only too aware of the counterfeit market, and also shows that someone does not want to be a part of it.

It is becoming increasingly hard to distinguish real items from fake items on eBay, but the tips above should help a little bit. Unsure of an item’s authenticity? Leave a comment and i will try and help out.

Okay, so when i saw that picture of Coleen Rooney in that stunning Lanvin ruffle top, i thought “wow – this is hot!”.

Lanvin is a clothing company founded by Jeanne Lanvin in 1909.

Jeanne Lanvin’s successors include Antonio del Castillo, Dominique Morlotti, Jules-Francois Crahay, Maryll Lanvin, Claude Montana and Patrick Lavoix. Their work has successfully immortalised a very Parisian, elegant couture style. (Source: http://www.infomat.com/whoswho/jeannelanvin.html)

Today, Lanvin’s designs are chic and elegant. It is almost hard to believe that a once velour tracksuit loving chav like Coleen Rooney has managed to turn this all around and become a force to be reckoned with in the fashionista stakes. When i saw her wearing that lush burnt orange Lanvin ruffle top, i thought it looked stunning on her tanned complexion.

The same top in a different colour also appeared on fellow WAG Alex Curran (now Gerard). So which WAG pulled it off better? Well, personally, i think Coleen did. However, normally i would say Alex is better dressed.

And celebrities in Lanvin doesn’t stop here my fashionista friends! Kate Hudson was also pictured in a  gorgeous blue Lanvin dress. Was it the right colour for her? Well, many will say yes, but i think it was a little too heavy on her pale skin. A lighter blue would have looked much less “bulky” on her. Still a gorgeous dress though!

As for my favourite Lanvin piece, i think Natalie Portman has found it! This season, purple is the hottest colour to be seen in and she looks simply stunning in this unusual Lanvin creation.

Now take part in my poll!

I think many people would argue on where the fashion capital of the world is. Lets look at the rivals:

Milan (Italy)

London (UK)

New York (US)

Paris (France)

Tokyo (Japan)

Well, having visited all these places in my time, i would hedge a bet and say that New York is probably the fashion capital of the world for me. The sheer number of fashion houses and stylish men and ladies parading the streets makes it quite special to me. However, some might say this is a rather obvious choice, so i decided to weigh up the other options.

In London, you get class combined with elegant chic fashions. With renowned UK designers, it make this one special place to be. My faves: Vivienne Westwood and Paul Smith.

In Paris, you get a much more effortlessly chic sense of style. The French fashions are often unique and it is the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré that shows us just what is so great about France. Luxury brands and neat stores makes this one my favourite locations.

For many, Milan is undoubtedly the fashion capital of the world. It has, for decades, been renowned for its stunning fashions and authentic brands. When you think of Gucci, you think of travelling to Milan and seeing the store in all its glory. The Italian ladies are, once again, stylish to the max and epitomise all that is on trend in the world of fashion. The Gucci store in Milan is the largest Gucci flagship store.

However, let us not forget about Tokyo. The Japanese are so on the pulse with their fashions, i believe this is a strong contender for fashion capital of the world. Japanese fashion makes the UK seem almost archaic in its approach to trends. Simply take a look at eBay and type in “Japanese dress” to see what i mean. You will often see the word “kawaii”  which means “cute” in Japanese, and this is something that young Japanese girls like their look to be. Japanese fashion is quirky and most definitely unique. Just take a look at my findings below:

The image above shows some rather unsual examples of Japanese fashion. Naturally, this isn’t regular attire, but just look at the facial decorations; even these are stylish and quirky! Anyone walking down the street in the UK with these would look ridiculous :)

For more examples of unique Japanese fashion, and why i think they could quite possibly be the fashion capital of the world, or at least the most unique fashion capital of the world, then paste the link below:

When it comes to fashion labels, i feel like i know my stuff. I worked in fashion for many years and everything i do revolves around it. One thing that i used to get asked a lot is “who’s going to be big next season” and i would try and guide my clients with their fashion styling.

Fashion labels are a fashionista’s dream. For some, just the sight of a Chloe label can create hysteria. For me though, it is all about the designers that start the trends, not keep up with them.

For example, who started the skull print trend? Some might say Alexander McQueen, some may say Thomas Wylde. There are so many fashion labels catching onto this skull print trend now, that i find myself looking for those fashion labels that spice it up a little bit. Okay, so we’ve seen the McQueen skulls scarfs; what next? Well, i really like A&G, a cult brand that hasn’t really taken off here in the UK, but is a big success in the US. The creator of A&G is Amal Guessous, and he is revered as a very edgy, rock and roll style fashion designer, as proved through his latest collection of Rock ‘n’ Roll Couture. The skull print in Amal’s designs took on a new form, with striking skulls adding a bit of “character” to your wardrobe. The image below is from RevolveClothing.com – NOW SOLD OUT.

I really like the skull look and i can’t see it going out of fashion anytime soon. However, just looking at Thomas Wylde’s collection, which has focused on skulls for a few seasons, the fashion label then started introducing scorpions as a quirky edge to the label. I think this was a great move; being pigeon-holed into one trademark thing might not always be beneficial, especially if skulls go out of fashion. So has this fashion label decided that skull print shouldn’t be “overdone” anymore? Well, as i say, i don’t think skulls are going to go out of fashion, but i do think they should now be used as subtle accents rather than bold all over skull prints. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more fashion labels taking this approach and expanding their ranges.

I remember when Coleen Rooney was younger and she was just getting into her designer clothes. I remember seeing her parade around in her bright fluorescent Juicy Couture tracksuits and Ugg Boots, and she thought she was the height of fashion.

Fortunately, it didn’t take long until she saw the light and she started dressing like a WAG dripping in proper Couture. Gone were the Juicy Couture tracksuits, replaced with stylish fitted dresses and designs hot off the catwalk. It was then that we started to respect her (and became a little bit envious…).

Here she is in her wine coloured Juicy Couture tracksuit and white Mukluk boots, made from innocent bunnies.  :(   Regret this photo, Coleen?

Despite Coleen rapidly realising that the bright tracksuit look is soooo not “on trend”, many people still love Juicy Couture and all it offers. In fact, in America, the Juicy Couture tracksuit doesn’t have the same connotation that it does over here. In Britain, if you are seen sporting one of these velour tracksuits, you are inevitably tarnished with the “chav” name, because there are so many cheap imitations available these days, and who can tell the difference? Well, if you are a hardcore Juicy Couture fan, then there is no doubt that you will be able to spot the trademark “J” zipper, which is unique to Juicy and should indicate it is the real deal.

So, as far as Juicy Couture is concerned, i am sure we will continue seeing the hype, but I am curious to know if that will still apply to the novelty tracksuits that people seem to love.

Check out the fabulous Juicy Couture for yourself, with all the latest designs (ships to the UK too!)

As a consumerist nation, we are forever looking for the latest must-have item, and this is quite often in the form of designer clothes. As a woman being showered with pictures of celebrities with the latest designer clothes, it can make us feel a bit “worthless” if we don’t buy the same. We aspire to these rich, wealthy celebrities, so we often want what they have.

However, with the Credit Crunch biting at our heels, are we going to cut back on our designer clothes spending? Hmmm…I’m not so sure. It might make our lives feel less “meaningful” if we can’t have the things we want. I know plenty of women who spend at least £500 a month on designer clothes just to be like their celebrity idol, but maybe if they can’t get the credit anymore, then this ridiculous spending habit will fade.

Right now, there is nothing ‘hotter’ than being seen in the latest designer clothes. The magazines litter their pages with the latest must haves, whether it be designer shoes, designer bags or that wonderful piece of designer clothing. But why pay the prices? It is becoming ever more apparent that the high street stores can beat the designer prices and create rather good replicas of our favourite designer brands.

Magazines are promoting this, just looking at the back of the Daily Mail Weekend magazine will show any clothing addict how to dress to impress for a reasonable price. £1500 for a designer dress? Why pay that when you can have an imitation from Topshop. It’s personal preference at the end of the day, but with the credit crunch hitting us hard, maybe more of us will be heading down the high street store route.

Primark are also offering the latest designer clothing trends at affordable prices. But then one must question whether we have to compromise on the quality as a result. For Fast Fashion though, Primark and Topshop deliver the goods. Maybe you want designer shoes? From past experiences, Primark don’t tend to keep their shoe ranges as ‘on trend’ as their clothing ranges, but then you can’t have everything! If you are paying less for a dress maybe you can afford to invest a little of your hard earned cash on some expensive designer shoes. Or a rather ’snazzy’ designer handbag. The choice is yours. Fashion at affordable prices is everywhere.

So why buy designer clothes?

As long as there are celebrities to aspire to, women will want what they have, so for some ladies – and equally some rather fastidious men – designer clothes are a must have. People want to feel good, and sometimes a designer label can help lift the spirits and boost the profile.

It’s easy to find where to buy the latest designer clothes. If you don’t want to pay the hefty price tags but still want to look like a designer goddess, then you can find some great options for star style at a cheaper price.
